Orforglipron is a weight-management tablet made by Eli Lilly — a pill version of the same idea behind the GLP-1 injections. It has no marketing authorisation in the European Union, so a doctor here cannot prescribe it and you cannot get it from an EU pharmacy, even though it is already approved in the United States.

What it is

Orforglipron was approved in the United States on 1 April 2026 under the brand name Foundayo. It acts on the brain’s appetite signals so you feel full sooner and eat less — the same mechanism as the injectable GLP-1 medicines, but as a once-daily tablet.

How it works

Orforglipron copies the effect of GLP-1, a natural gut hormone that tells the brain you have eaten enough, so hunger and food intake go down.

ATTAIN-1 compared orforglipron only against placebo over 72 weeks. There is no head-to-head trial against the medicines already authorised for weight management in the EU, and no long-term cardiovascular outcome data have been published.

Nausea was reported by 28.9% to 33.7% of participants and constipation by 21.7% to 29.8%, depending on the dose.

In ATTAIN-1, nausea was the most common side effect and constipation the second most common. Both were more frequent than with placebo.
