Overweight is defined here as a BMI of 25 or higher, and when combined with a weight-related health condition or a higher BMI, a doctor may consider medical weight management as part of a plan. Not every case of overweight needs treatment — a doctor reviews your history to decide whether medical weight management is appropriate for you.

Treatments a doctor considers

A licensed doctor decides case by case and never prescribes without evaluation.

Semaglutide (Wegovy / Ozempic)

Weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist. A doctor may prescribe it if your BMI and history match the indications. Requires follow-up.

Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)

Dual GLP-1/GIP agonist, assessed by the doctor based on comorbidities and BMI. See the tirzepatide page.

Liraglutide (Saxenda)

Daily GLP-1 agonist, indicated in selected patients with elevated BMI after medical evaluation. See the Saxenda page.

Orlistat 120 mg

Fat-absorption inhibitor — a non-GLP-1 alternative a doctor may consider based on your history.
Rybelsus (oral semaglutide) — a once-daily semaglutide tablet authorised for type 2 diabetes. Any use in weight management is an individual medical decision and may be off-label.

Who it is not suitable for

Not every case of overweight needs medical treatment. The doctor reviews your BMI and history to decide whether a medical weight-management programme — and which medicine — is appropriate; some cases are better served without medication.

Who it is suitable for

Medical weight management is typically considered for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or a BMI of 27 or more with a weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea or cardiovascular disease. A licensed doctor reviews your full history to decide which option — if any — fits your case.

How Hi-Doctor handles it

The medication, if the doctor prescribes it, is paid separately at the pharmacy at the price it sets — see pricing for the plan fee. Hi-Doctor does not sell medications.

Common questions

The doctor reviews your BMI, medical history, current medicines and weight goal through the questionnaire. They assess whether your BMI and any related health conditions match the indications for the available options.
Results vary by treatment and person. GLP-1 medicines typically produce noticeable weight change within the first few weeks to months. The doctor reviews your progress quarterly and adjusts the plan as needed.
A candidate is someone whose BMI and health profile make a medical approach potentially appropriate. The doctor weighs your BMI, any weight-related conditions, your medical history and your goal before deciding.
Yes. Hi-Doctor operates across the EU. If a doctor approves treatment, they issue an electronic prescription valid under EU Directive 2011/24/EU, which any EU pharmacy can dispense.
If the doctor decides treatment is not appropriate, the consultation fee is refunded in full within 48 hours.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Tirzepatide is a dual GLP-1/GIP agonist that activates two gut-hormone receptors at the same time. A doctor considers which medicine fits your case based on your BMI, history and any comorbidities.

Weight-loss consultation

Answer the weight-loss questionnaire and a registered doctor reviews it. They decide whether treatment is appropriate, which one, and at what dose — and declining is a normal outcome. See what it costs and how the review works.
This page is reference information, not medical advice and not a prescription. Whether a medicine is appropriate for you is decided by a registered doctor after reviewing your consultation.
