# Hair loss treatment pathway

> How Hi-Doctor's medical assessment and tailored treatment for hair loss works, and how it fits alongside the weight-loss and sexual-health pathways.

Hair loss treatment at Hi-Doctor starts with a medical assessment by a licensed doctor who reviews your history and suggests a suitable treatment plan rather than offering a menu of options. If a treatment is not safe for you, the doctor tells you at no cost.

## Three categories, one process

A licensed doctor reviews your history and suggests a suitable treatment plan. If a treatment isn't safe for you, they'll tell you at no cost.

Choose what fits — the journey is identical across all three: questionnaire, doctor review, and treatment only where appropriate. See [treatment areas](/essentials/treatments) for how each questionnaire differs.

## Common questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What happens during a hair-loss consultation?">
    You answer a 4-minute questionnaire about your health and hair-loss pattern. A licensed EU doctor reviews it within 24 hours and, if treatment is appropriate, issues an electronic prescription. If the doctor does not approve treatment, the consultation fee is refunded in full.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What treatments does a doctor consider for hair loss?">
    A doctor may consider finasteride (a daily tablet that lowers DHT), topical minoxidil (a scalp solution applied twice daily), or a combination of both. In specific cases, oral minoxidil, dutasteride or a personalised compounded formulation may be considered. The choice depends on your pattern of loss, medical history and the EU authorisation status.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How long does hair-loss treatment take to work?">
    Most treatments need 6 to 12 months of consistent use before the effect can be judged. In the first few months, some shedding is normal and means the treatment is active. Visible regrowth is assessed at around 12 months.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can women use hair-loss treatment?">
    Topical minoxidil is authorised for female pattern hair loss. Finasteride is authorised for men only and is contraindicated in women of childbearing potential because it can cause abnormalities in a male foetus. A doctor may consider finasteride or spironolactone off-label in specific cases with strict pregnancy safeguards.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is hair transplant covered?">
    No. Hair transplant is surgery and is not something a doctor here can prescribe. The treatment page covers the medical options a doctor can prescribe after an online consultation.

## How Hi-Doctor handles it

The process is online from consultation to ongoing follow-up. See [how it works](/essentials/how-it-works) for the step-by-step process, and [pricing](/essentials/pricing) for the consultation fee — medication, if prescribed, is paid separately, at a pharmacy of your choice.
