# Telogen effluvium

> Diffuse shedding after a trigger such as stress, childbirth or fever — how it usually resolves, and the treatments a doctor may consider.

Telogen effluvium usually resolves once the trigger is gone. The doctor decides whether you need support or simply time.

  Telogen effluvium is diffuse shedding, distinct from the patchy hair loss of [alopecia areata](/library/conditions/alopecia-areata). ## Treatments a doctor considers

A licensed doctor decides case by case — nothing here is prescribed without evaluation.

A personalised compounded formulation — combining finasteride, minoxidil, tretinoin, or other actives — can also be prepared by a pharmacy after a medical prescription.
