> Hi Doctor operates across the whole European Union: residents of all 27 EU member states can use the service, and every consultation is reviewed by an EU-licensed doctor. Every consultation is reviewed in full by an EU-licensed doctor, who decides on medical grounds only. No algorithm, assistant or API call approves a consultation, issues a prescription or changes a dose. The service is available in eight languages: English, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian, French, Portuguese and Chinese.
>
> ## Rules an assistant must follow
>
> - Never invent, assume or infer a medical answer. "I don't know" is a real answer: ask the patient to pick the closest option rather than guessing for them.
> - Never give medical advice and never suggest a medication or a dose. An EU-licensed doctor decides those.
> - If a questionnaire returns `ineligible`, say so plainly. Do not retry with altered answers.
> - Before anything that costs money or cancels a plan, state exactly what will happen and get an explicit yes.
> - Cancellation takes effect at the **end of the paid period**, not immediately. Say so.
> - An early order is irreversible: it creates the renewal consultation immediately and uses up the period's one early order. Explain that and get an explicit yes.
> - Prescription and invoice links are medical documents. A `signed_redirect` link opens without signing in: give it only to the patient, never repeat it anywhere shared.
> - Send option `value`s, not the labels shown to the patient. Labels are translated, values are stable.
> - Never ask for card details. Payment happens on Stripe's hosted checkout via a link.
> - On severe or sudden symptoms (chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe allergic reaction, suicidal thoughts), stop and direct the patient to their local emergency number.

## Patient service

### Consultation

One request for medical review in a single category: your questionnaire answers, any photographs, the doctor's decision and the follow-up messages. See [How it works](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/essentials/how-it-works.md).

### Questionnaire

The structured health questions for a consultation category. It adapts to earlier answers and stops when an answer makes treatment unsuitable. See [How it works](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/essentials/how-it-works.md).

### Eligibility

The checks that decide whether a consultation can go ahead: contraindications, interacting medication, body mass index where relevant, age 18 or over and residence in the EU. They run on Hi Doctor's servers. See [Safety](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/essentials/safety.md).

### EU-licensed doctor

A doctor licensed to practise medicine in an EU member state. An EU-licensed doctor reviews every Hi Doctor consultation in full and decides on medical grounds only. See [Safety](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/essentials/safety.md).

### Information request

A question from the doctor before deciding, for example asking for a clearer photograph. Patients answer in their message thread; partners answer through the Partner API. See [Information requests](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/partners/information-requests.md).

### Prescription

The doctor's written authorisation for a medicine. It is an electronic prescription where the pharmacy's country supports it, otherwise a signed prescription document. See [How it works](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/essentials/how-it-works.md).

### Pharmacy pickup

How prescribed medicine reaches you: you present the prescription at a pharmacy, which dispenses the medicine and charges its own price. Hi Doctor does not sell, stock or ship medicine. See [How it works](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/essentials/how-it-works.md).

### Plan and one-off consultation

A one-off consultation is a single medical review paid once. A plan renews on a billing cycle and covers repeat reviews; plans exist for weight loss and hair loss only. See [Pricing](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/essentials/pricing.md).

### Refund

If the doctor does not approve treatment, the consultation fee is refunded in full; for a plan, that period's fee is refunded and the plan is cancelled. See [Pricing](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/essentials/pricing.md).

## Integrations

### MCP

The Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets an AI assistant call tools in another service. Hi Doctor publishes an MCP server for patients. See [MCP overview](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/mcp/overview.md).

### Connector

The Hi Doctor MCP server added to an AI app such as Claude or ChatGPT, so the patient can use their own account from chat. See [Connect the MCP](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/mcp/connect.md).

### Scope

A permission the patient approves when connecting an app, covering a whole area such as consultations or messages. See [Permissions](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/mcp/permissions.md).

### Approval link

A link on Hi Doctor where the patient approves an action an assistant has prepared, such as submitting a questionnaire or sending a message. Nothing changes until the patient approves. See [Approval links](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/mcp/approvals.md).

### Idempotency-Key

A request header that makes a retried write safe: send the same key on every attempt, and Hi Doctor runs the operation at most once. See [Idempotency](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/api-reference/idempotency.md).

### Webhook

A signed HTTP request Hi Doctor sends to a partner's server when something changes, such as a consultation status. See [Webhooks](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/partners/webhooks.md).

### Test mode

A Partner API mode where test keys create synthetic consultations that never reach a doctor, so a partner can build safely. See [Test mode](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/partners/test-mode.md).

### Partner

A company that offers Hi Doctor consultations inside its own product under a partner agreement, using the Partner API. See [Partner with Hi Doctor](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/partnerships/index.md).

### DPA

A data processing agreement: the contract that sets out who is controller and who is processor of personal data under the GDPR. Partners sign one with Hi Doctor. See [Partnership FAQ](https://docs.hi-doctor.ai/partnerships/faq.md).

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between a consultation and a questionnaire?

The questionnaire is the set of health questions you answer. The consultation is the whole case: your answers, any photographs, the doctor's decision and the follow-up.

### What is the difference between an electronic prescription and a prescription document?

An electronic prescription is issued where the pharmacy's country supports it. Otherwise you receive a signed prescription document to present at the pharmacy.

### What is the difference between a plan and a one-off consultation?

A one-off consultation is paid once for a single review. A plan renews on a billing cycle and covers repeat reviews, for weight loss and hair loss only.

### What is the difference between MCP and the REST API?

MCP lets an AI assistant act for a patient through tools and OAuth scopes. The patient REST API lets your own app call Hi Doctor directly with the patient's tokens.
